The Martial Art of Awareness
I Liq Chuan
A Workshop with Master Sam Chin
November 6 & 7, 2010
10:30 am - 6:00 pm
I Liq Chuan is an Internal Art that has become known worldwide for its combat effectiveness, and the clarity and high quality of instruction in the transmission of its training methods and refined skill sets. The practice of I Liq Chuan develops the ability to react spontaneously to attacks, not relying upon pre-arranged responses, through its specialized partner practices of Spinning Hands & Sticky Hands.
In this weekend workshop Master Sam Chin will guide you with Tai Chi Principles and Chan (Zen) approaches to learning. Through solo exercises and partner practice you will learn how to quickly, efficiently and successfully develop the specific skills and qualities the Internal Arts are famous for. By practicing a series of movement drills with a focus on awareness and attention, you will learn to unify yourself and in turn, with a partner. It is through the physical sensitivity and awareness of the reactions of both your partners and your own body that you will begin to feel and act in the moment, rather than thinking and anticipating.
You will learn Mentally and Physically to Understand and Manifest the Five Qualities essential to the Internal Arts: Absorb & Project - Open & Close - Condense & Expand - Concave & Convex - 3Dimensional Spherical Power and Actions; to express these Five Qualities with a partner through Spinning Hands & Sticky Hands and the Strategies of Action in dealing with an opponent and Engaging on the Point of Contact.

About I-Liq Chuan:
I-Liq Chuan (roughly translated as "mind-body fist") is an art of cultivating consciousness based on Tai Chi and Chan (Zen) principles of non-assertions, non-resistance, harmony of yin and yang, oneness, and the present moment. As a system of kung fu, I-Liq Chuan emphasizes the development of internal power through mental attitude and awareness. The training develops sticking and merging abilities, circular spiral energy, Chin Na (locking), Fa Jing (projecting force), Chi Kung, and most importantly, integration of the mind's complete awareness in the present moment. I-Liq Chuan trains the ability to sense the opponent's intention through awareness and to redirect the force and use it against the opponent or incorporate the use of Fa Jing.
