THE TIMING AND SPACING OF THE ONE BALANCE POINT
A Seminar Series with Grand Master Sam F.S. Chin
There is a moment so subtle that it almost escapes perception - when motion shifts. In that instant between change and stillness lies the heart of what Grand Master Sam F.S. Chin calls 'The One Balance Point'.
Everything begins here. Every breath, every step, and every expression of life is the result of ongoing adjustment - balance - in space, time, and distance.
For over fifty years, Grand Master Chin has devoted his life to transmitting the essence of Zhong Xin Dao - I Liq Chuan, the Martial Art of Awareness. From all over the world Martial Arts Practitioners and Instructors (including heads of Systems and Promoters of Martial Arts Gatherings and Symposiums), Body-workers, Hanna Somatics & Feldenkrais practitioners, Dancers, Yoga Teachers, Acupuncturists, Physical Therapists, Psychotherapists, University Professors and Meditators - seek his precise teaching and clear guidance to understand how attention shapes form, and how true action emerges from presence and stillness.
"Sifu Sam Chin...changed my entire system without me changing anything I did - just how I looked at it and my viewpoint and how I interfaced with it...Sifu Chin also said 'the Secrets' protect themselves so teach everything".
Pai Lum Kung Fu - Sifu William Luciano
(50+ years of experience in the Martial Arts) from a recent YouTube Interview with Martial Arts Instructor, University Professor, Event Promoter and Writer - Steve Pearlman PhD

MOBILIZING AWARENESS: A DIRECT EXPERIENCE
One touch can change everything. Not because of mystical power - because in that instant, you know.
You know where you are in space. You know where your partner is. You know what is happening - and what is about to happen - before it unfolds.
That is what Grand Master Chin can authentically teach you: not “technique” or “style,” but the art of mobilizing awareness and expanding your available means of perception.
Knowing through direct experience - the living essence of Zhong Xin Dao - I Liq Chuan.
In all the sessions of this intensive we will explore the Difference Between Space and Spacing. You will enjoy learning how to Maintain and connect pressure and awareness in the Space between the Points of Contact in solo training and as you contact your partner's body. Feeling this effect has on the increase in your power without using additional effort is profound, dramatic and immediate.
You will also learn how to critically examine, assess, and refine the Rotational Values of your Skeletal Structure. How you move your Torso and Limbs with the Central Axis, create and Fullness and correct directions of action within of the Tissue Flows. The ‘Central Axis’ is something you create and maintain while by being balanced. This is the main key for refining your timing, structure, and response to oncoming pressure that can transform both your practice and perception. Deeply understanding the application of 'Rotational Power' without cutting through the 'Bone Line' is the main skill that can make someone an outstanding martial arts practitioner.
Grand-master Sam Chin was speaking with me last year when he was here and he asked me
"How many Martial Artist teachers and practitioners in the world today can really move from their Bone Line with a pure Central Rotation?"... He noted "I think only a few."
In my experience there are very few Instructors in the world who can even understand or articulate this concept, much less teach you precisely how to train Rotation so you can move with this depth of clarity.
Without achieving true precision and awareness of the Bone Line rotation as it relates to Yin & Yang Tissue Flows and Complementary Ligamental Support - you will reach a plateau in you training you can never rise above.
WHAT THIS SEMINAR DELIVERS
Grand Master Chin will take you beyond forms, beyond imitation, and into the living geometry of embodied awareness.
You’ll learn how space, timing, and distance interweave—not as concepts, but as the only reality from which you can truly act.
This is not abstract talk - these are profound philosophical and theoretical concepts grounded in hands-on, real-time discovery—guided by the Gatekeeper and Founder himself.
You’ll learn how space, timing, and distance interweave—not as concepts, but as the only reality from which you can truly act.
- Adjusting with The One Balance Point: How constantly changing is the only right action to produce optimal power and control.
- Maintaining the Same Pressure in All the Joints and Cavities of your Body: Making this awareness and presence the measure of when and how to change with forces, whether they are oncoming or retreating
- Lengthening along your Bone Line to Optimize the Balance of the Direction of Flow within the Yin & Yang Tissue
- Initiating the Action of Dropping: Understanding the Medial to Lateral Gravitational Pull and how it affects the Flows on the Condensing & Drawing of Yin to create Sticking Energy and capture your Opponent’s Structur
- Recognizing the difference and relationship between Structure & Action: Feeling Separation, Looseness & Connection to maintain your alignment & Yin & Yang Tissues harmonization - the state of Tai Chi
- Realizing the Function of Zero: The hidden reference point for all power, precision, and perception - refining your timing, structure, and response
- Practicing Practical Drills to apply these principles through range, section, and the interplay connecting of force. Flow, Fend & Breaking contact
- Splitting from the Hips: The primary coordination of the Hip Roll with your torso to create opposite and equal power in your arms and legs
- Understanding the keys to balancing pressure with the action of Pivoting: Effectively changing from Concave to Convex –The continuity of aligning the 'X' and the 'Cross
- Discovering dimensions and volume: the action of Planes (4 Directions) and Dimensions (2 Directions), creating fullness and Peng energy
- Applying Frameworks for Timing and Spacing: Training these principles through range, section, and connecting force through Spinning & Sticky Hands training with the 3-Dimensional Awareness of the Mechanism of Movemen
- Looking into Push & Pull of the Forking Lines in the Upper & Lower Hands Process
This is not abstract talk - these are profound philosophical and theoretical concepts grounded in hands-on, real-time discovery—guided by the Gatekeeper and Founder himself.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Mastery isn’t about memorizing movement. True mastery is recognizing balance as the source of power. When you can see and feel balancing - adjust with it and move within it - you stop reacting.
You simply know and express the Natural Flow of movement and Reaction.
“The only right action is balancing—changing with changes so as not to change.”
— Grand Master Sam F.S. Chin
This insight is the transition between “doing” and “being aware while doing”—between external practice and internal realization.
If you’ve ever wondered how the highest-level practitioners move without effort, sense intention before it manifests, and remain calm in the chaos—this is where their journey begins.

YOU WILL TRAIN:
- Occupying and Giving Space: The twin gates of connection and distance.
- Meeting to Match: How true contact reveals timing, range, and position.
- Tracing the Line: The map of the body through first, second, and third sections. How to access and control the entire skeleton – feel how most techniques fail when this is not accounted for
- Matching with the Square: Aligning your shoulder, hip, and spine for counterbalance, rotation, and power.
- Deepening your understanding of the Function of Zero: Calibrating perception through sameness instead of difference.
- Connecting Force with Space and Spacing: Maintaining pressure and awareness in the Space between the Points of Contact
You will also develop sensitive awareness of:
- Timing, Rotation and Distance
- Meet to Match - connecting with clarity and without resistance.
- Ranges and Sections - aligning form and function as one.
- The Zero Point - seat of stillness within change.
- Counterbalance and Readiness - manifest motion in the center of your Spine, Hips and Shoulders and feel the fending force on the their circumference creating spherical power.
Step by step, Grand Master Chin leads you not only to move correctly, but to see differently—to know directly through experience.
Here, art becomes a mirror showing the living principles of life.
WHO IS THIS FOR?
Martial artists practitioners of Tai Chi, Hsing-I Ba Gua, I Chuan, Aikido, Systema, Wing Chun, Jujitsu, Judo etc., who’ve tasted something deeper but can’t access it consistently - If you’ve known something deeper was there but couldn’t quite access it…This is it.
- Body-workers, Acupuncturists and Healthcare Professionals who understand the Nervous System and Energy Channels, but want to feel kinetic intelligence in action
- Educators who want to investigate an Embodied Learning Pedagogy with a proven track record for merging Eastern/Western philosophies and frameworks that guide teaching outlining somatic approaches and strategies
- Meditation and Yoga and Practitioners of Somatics Arts and Therapies who want to increase their interoception and proprioception skills, through a dynamic practice of embodied cognition, directly experiencing the crucial role your body plays in shaping your thoughts and brain processes which are deeply intertwined with your somatic experiences and interactions with your environment
- Dancers and Movement Teachers (Pilates, Gyrotonics, Feldenkrais, etc.) who crave structure-based flow that moves from the inside-out—not just shape and style
- Anyone sincerely interested in Internal Cultivation who wants to see and feel the true mechanics of awareness, balance, and presence - and connect with an authentic reliable source of this information with a like-minded community for people in a supportive non-competitive training environment.
YOU WILL LEAVE WITH
The confidence to practice correctly: I have a distance student who recently reported to me; when he was here in person, that when he practices, he has a lot of ‘questions’. However after speaking with him further we both came to realize he has a lot ‘doubt’ about his ability to practice correctly on his own
To return to the One Balance Point, where balancing is not something you do - it is what you are. This is not just a seminar - it’s a transformation in perception.
- This seminar will give you the confidence to practice correctly so your time and efforts are well spent.
- A clearer sense of your own center - physically and energetically.
- The ability to feel space and move with precision instead of guesswork.
- A practical understanding of balance, timing, and force.
- Tools to refine awareness in every moment, on and off the mat.
To return to the One Balance Point, where balancing is not something you do - it is what you are. This is not just a seminar - it’s a transformation in perception.
