The Buddha addressed the community thus:
“It is through not fully understanding and penetrating the Four Noble Truths that I, as well as you, have experienced the cycle of rebirth-and-death for a very long time.
Because of not fully understanding the Noble Truth of Suffering we have experienced the cycle of rebirth-and-death; by not fully understanding the Noble Truth of the Origin of Suffering; the Noble Truth of the Cessation of Suffering; and the Noble Truth of the Path Leading to the Cessation of Suffering; that we have for a long time experienced the cycle of rebirth-and-death.
So long as my penetration and insight into these Four Noble Truths as they really are was not thoroughly complete in their three phases and twelve aspects, then I did not claim to have awakened to the unsurpassed perfect Enlightenment in this world. But when my penetration and insight into these Four Noble Truths as they really are was thoroughly complete in their three phases and twelve aspects, then did I claim to have awakened to the unsurpassed perfect Enlightenment in this world."

I was recently in Chicago with Grand Master Sam Chin and his family and fellow ILC Instructors guarding Relics of the Buddha and 4 of the Buddha disciples. https://www.ibfachicagotemple.org/event-list
This was part of a Chinese Festival in Chicago Chinatown with 50,000 to 100,000 people attending over 2 days.
Initially when I volunteered for this I thought this was going to be some chill event for a few hundred people there in Chicago at the International Buddhist Friendship Association Temple (IBFA). https://www.ibfachicagotemple.org/
This was an extremely rare once in a lifetime opportunity - everyone who volunteered felt privileged to participate, work as a team and serve. It was very interesting to be in this wonderful energy field, also tiring as it was close to 100 degrees. After the 2 long days of the Festival we had private time with the Abbott Venerable Ji Ru and the Sacred Relics. Ven Ji Ru and Sifu Sam discussed training and practice of entering into higher states of Meditative Absorption or Jhana beyond the 6 senses. This was very high level and intensive Martial Arts training with Grand Master Sam and Masters Hsin Chin and Yen Lee Chin, coupled with advanced Dharma Lectures over 3 days led by Venerable Ji Ru.
The levels in the ILC system are set up like the Jnanas: Levels 1-4 is the first Jhana, awareness of your own unification. Levels 5-6 is the second, meeting with the 4 strategies while holding a pivot point. Levels 7-8 is third, holding the point and the line so an opponent can’t produce power via crisscross (using their ligaments to support the action of their muscles on the opposite or complimentary side of their skeleton). Level 9 is fourth, using reversing and returning energy - holding the tension line through the skeletal structure down to the opponents feet to prevent them from kicking. Level 10 is fifth, seizing and stopping - Chin Na - the ability to reliably jam and freeze the opponents joints and skeletal structure, while maintaining a constant condition of offense so you act defensively while being able to attack at any time, and respond with multiple actions, rather than trading back and forth. Level 11 - San Da understanding and employing the concepts of 'Empty' and 'Full' parallels the sixth through seventh Jhana: training both your physical conditioning and understanding the conditions of timing and spacing, knowing when and how to break contact and moving to create your own condition to attack and prevent their preemptive attack or counterattack. The Meditation Level 12 in ILC focuses on the Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta (The Four Foundations of Mindfulness). These are core teachings detailing how to establish awareness. They guide practitioners to observe the body, feelings, mind, and mental objects in daily life and meditation. All 8 Jhanas are within the fourth foundation—mindfulness of mental objects (dhammās)—specifically under the section addressing the Four Noble Truths and the path, where right concentration (samammā-samādhi) is defined as entering and dwelling in all the Jhanas.
After Chicago we traveled to New York and took part in a celebration for Sifu's 72nd birthday and an additional 8 days of Instructor Training. This was very personal instruction with lots of probing questions and insightful and illuminating answers - with an atmosphere that emphasized the Quality of Attention and Clarity of Focus when training.
During this time we focused on a deep investigation and embodiment of the 13 Points, 5 Qualities, and the 15 Basic Foundational Exercises.
Yet, there was nothing dogmatic. This was not just a presentation to review accepted principles or merely revisit the pedagogy regarding the ILC training. Rather, everything was questioned and everything was tested out and verified by each participant's direct experience, so the understanding and the practice were able to coalesce and progress.
Sifu Sam emphasized the grounding within the “5 Platforms of Knowledge” that form the common ground of the Martial Art of Awareness system; these are the key to effective development with our approach and path to the attributes of progress.
Although there were high level, proficient instructors who had traveled from Europe, Canada, and around the US with decades of familiarity with the System, we quickly realized that we were not as complete in our understanding of the material as we had previously thought. Such a realization gave a deeper appreciation of how vast, simple (once one has the correct view) and truly profound the I Liq Chuan System is.
All throughout this time Master Hsin's guidance, feedback, and hands on corrections were invaluable, especially his feeding of the correct application of the touch. Hsin has an exceptional eye and can pinpoint gaps in your structure, alignment, connection and attention.
Personally, the corrections and insights I have gained from working with Hsin have been transformative: opening a new sense of awareness, nuance and clarity to movements I have been training all my time in the Internal Martial Arts.
This experience of realizing that 'true understanding was still lacking' both in myself and with the group - reminded me of the quote from the Buddha above.
While you may or may not wish to experience rebirth you should definitely come to the seminar for Hsin's wonderful instruction and guidance.
If you have trained before this 'coming back' may be a revelation, and if you are new to the system this will be a great beginning.

The Specific Details You Miss Regarding the Sequence and Subtle Distinctions When Organizing The 13 Points Is The Power You’re Leaving Behind
It is in the continued spirit of this training and dialogue that we are excited to offer this upcoming workshop with Master Hsin Chin.
Because the details are not minor.
They are where your root, breath, structure, balance, spherical power, spirals (Spinning Force of Coordination), and martial effectiveness either come together… or come apart.
Force travels through your Structure. "Structure" is born from coordination of your joints and bone structure.
Having correct alignment and relaxation does not mean that you can generate proper energy in movement.
You must be able to lead spiral energy from the center of your Joints, Skeleton, and Ligaments. This requires rotating your bone structure, through your tissues to then Expand it out to the interior of your skin and then Condense it back into your bone structure.
The Central Axial Rotation through your bone structure is something you establish by being Balanced and Counterbalanced.
Hsin is highly skilled at giving you a direct hands on tactile sense of these advanced but essential Body Connections and Physiological Processes.
He has an uncanny sense of noticing important things, notably gaps in your attention and small misalignments regarding the direction of flow within your muscles that other instructors and training partners miss.
What is it like when his correction lands? It feels like you are suddenly very clear and capable about something you had been struggling with moments ago.
Hsin communicates the material in a natural fun manner - with a common sense approach that makes concepts accessible and attainable to anyone regardless of their level.
You may already know the movements or choreography of the Foundational Ji Ben Gong—the Basic Exercise Sets, or Martial Arts Forms.
You may be familiar with the Terminology and Principles. You may have heard “nine solid, one hollow or empty,” “open the kwa,” “tuck the ribs,” and “suction on the Dantien and the sternum” "expand the Ming Men" hundreds of times.
But then, suddenly, one correction lands—and everything changes.
An ILC student from the Bay Area who traveled to NY to attend this recent I Liq Chuan NY Instructor Training described exactly that experience: “I’d heard it a hundreds of times, but it landed differently.”
Another Private student who is a very accomplished Personal Fitness Trainer with over 30 years in Chinese Martial Arts commented:
"Nothing organizes, resets and connects my body like going through this sequence with the details and exact order you shared. It also makes a lot of sense. Using these points in any order in my experience will definitely give someone more connection and power - using them so precisely the power and stability are exponential, and the weaknesses I did not know I had become immediately apparent."

The aim and purpose of this workshop -- Refinements of the 13 Points & 5 Qualities -- is:
Not to give you more choreography. Not to bury you in abstract theory.
But to help you understand and feel the precise internal order that turns familiar principles and exercises into living skill.
The difference is in the order and the way you set up your body with the correct reference of the primacy of rotation on specific anatomical planes – Horizontal, Frontal, Sagittal.
Most practitioners can use many of these individual components. But doing the right things in the wrong sequence can leave you “almost there”—and almost there is not the same as truly connected.
In this seminar, we explore specifically how the 13 Points are organized and layered so that each point supports the next. You will work with this sequence so you can precisely feel the differences that these corrections make with your stability, mobility, and ability to absorb and redirect force.
To be clear in your movement, and more present when contact becomes real, your understanding has to be thorough and complete.
From the seminar you will gain a reliable way to self-diagnose so as to achieve genuine skill and a way to practice correctly and productively without dependency on a teacher.
Once you understand the correct sequence and the correct rotational references, you can feel for yourself when something is off and know specifically where to look, and 'what', 'how' and 'why' to correct. It will no longer solely be in Hsin's or another Instructor’s hands to find your gaps.

Topics We Will be Covering and Refining
- Finding the center line from the crown of the head through the lower body to where the rotational energy organizes every joint from the top down
- Creating the Foot Wrap on the bottom of the foot with forking energy from the inside to the outside mirroring the function of the 8 hip rotator muscles
- Creating a Counter wrap in the Top of Foot in the opposite direction - to establish the essential separation in the Bone line of the Yin and Yang Muscles
- Sensing and developing a stronger flow of the Yang muscle pathway along the front and the Yin draw up the back of the Legs
- Releasing the Muscles and Tendons and Fascia into the balance line, feet and pelvic floor - then feeling your whole body re-stablish a stable buoyancy and fullness
- Opening and using the Yen Kwa (Center of the Hip) as a three-dimensional sphere - when the hip is organized, you can receive force without immediately being pushed backward.
- How to meet force at the front of the hip sphere rather than allowing someone to enter your center
- Organizing the ribcage so the Dantien can actually function
- Understanding why the Ribcage must be organized before the Dantien can be organized ad accessed
- Seeing why attention in the feet matters more than what your hands appear to be doing
- Recognizing the difference between tucking the pelvis and turning the pelvis through a functional spiral
- Learning about the Primacy of Horizontal Organization of the Wu Shu 5 Pivots Point - Gallbladder 27 so that you can correctly feel and train the Horizontal Motion at the Pivot 5 - Wu Shu Gallbladder 27 Point
This one detail is a complete Game Changer. This is Animated by Horizontal Rotation through the Tensor Fascia Latae Muscle, Sartorius and Rectus Femoris Muscles and Fascial Bands.
This will Propel the Rotational of the 'Vertical Leg Drivers' as it Condenses Dantien and opens Ming Men
Most practitioners organize their Pelvis using only a Sagittal Organization when leveling their Pelvis - This is an Error that I would estimate 99.9% of practitioners are engaged in.
Correcting this gives you the enhanced ability to move without effort, receive force without being destabilized, feel lighter in your feet while having your structure hold and effectively change under real pressure rather than collapsing at the moment it matters most.
This one correction will be worth many times the price of the seminar and would be well worth traveling to receive clear instruction in - However...

Other Key Insights will also be covered:
- How the foot, heel, toes, and lower-leg wrapping create lightness without losing root. When the lower body is properly organized, the feet become lighter—not dead or collapsed.
- How to meet force at the front of the hip sphere rather than allowing someone to enter your center.
- How the 'Yao Kwa' operates as an 'Arch' or 'Bow' in front, back, side, top, and bottom—not as a vague area of the body
- Why it is critical first to establish the 'Side Bow' of leg crossing to big toe then establish 'Front Bow' of the leg, so the feet achieve superior and proper stability and the Expanding Yang Channels function correctly
- Why it is critical first to establish the 'Inside Bow' of leg on the Yin Medial Side then establish Condensing of the Yin muscles on the back of the leg, so the Drawing and Condensing Yin Channels function correctly.
- How to work with the lower and back part of the ribs to expand your respiratory capacity and reduce fatigue during intense activity
- What is entailed in the contrast between expansion and narrowing: how the fascia within the hand, foot, or body segment can “expand” outward to fill space, then lengthen and narrow to transmit force more cleanly along the bone line
These specific and felt references offer a more intelligent way to train. This work is detailed, but it is not merely intellectual. It gives you a way to concretely test what you feel.
Our aim is to develop skill while keeping your body available, responsive, and alive.
You begin to understand why a small error in the order of the sequence or the rotational reference on an anatomical plane can make the whole structure feel unstable. And why a small correction can make it suddenly feel completely stable and responsive.
The aim is not to force the body or mind into deeper compression and contraction or deeper forced concentration. The aim is to develop skill while keeping the body available, responsive, and alive, and the mind aware and free.

Testimonials for Hsin Chin...
Sifu Bernard Langan -
"thanks for organizing the “standing room only” Master Hsin Chin Seminar. Very absorbing program indeed. It was held at In Motion Center in Oakland.
I don’t normally post material on Facebook, but would like to send this note for everyone to read about my experience, last week.
Hsin is a Master and 'Heir Apparent' of the Zhong Xin Dao/I Liq Chuan Art of the Chin Family; he is the son of the lineage holder Grandmaster Sam Chin. He has a thoughtful mind, big shoulders, strong hips and powerful legs. As a teacher, he manifests gentle calmness, and a deep capacity to engage with individual practitioners and distill and refine their movements both mentally and physically. His clarity and his attentiveness to the limitations and capabilities of each practitioner, enables them to enhance their abilities and to utilize their innate tools. Individuals are heart-fully encouraged to uncover ways of effectively balancing the flow of their body dynamics. When in doubt he would humbly default to “ask my Father.” He is keenly aware of each practitioner’s specific needs: listening attentively and feeding appropriately; not overwhelmingly. At the same time, he can speak to the entire group and personally to each participant.
It’s nice to work out and train with Master Hsin, a gentle giant from the pedigree of established founding practitioners. As 'a curious old guy on the block', I know that Hsin and The ZXD process has made a significant difference in the lifestyle changes of my current total lifelong learning. I have attended many of his intensives over the past several years, and they are all totally enjoyable.
Thanks, Hsin!"
Wan Chan, MD Comment from Master Hsin Chin -
"Thank you very much for the kind testimonial, Wan, you're a pleasure to have and a wonderful inspiration for me, and the rest of our community.

Comment from Bernard Langan-
Wonderful Share - Wan ! - FYI the 'curious old guy on the block'; Dr. Wan Chan is truly an inspiration to everyone in Zhong Xin Dao/I Liq Chuan who has the opportunity to train with this fine gentleman. Born in Malaysia, he is a retired Obstetric Physician with a career spanning 50 years - delivering 10,000+ babies on 3 continents and in 4 countries; Wan speaks 4 languages. After the seminar this weekend, I asked Wan how he got started - he said 'Serendipity' - 'Good Luck in making Unexpected and Fortunate Discoveries.';
recounting that he was an avid traveler, golfer and fly fisherman; before a hand injury 10 years ago prompted him to begin training in the Internal Martial Arts.
At the age of 75, Wan began learning Tai Chi from expert Instructor Sifu Michael Chan at Tai Chi Tutelage of Palo Alto.
Wan describes himself as a 'lifelong learner' and thinks his practice of I Liq Chuan for the last 6 years will allow him to live a healthier more productive life. I asked Wan, now 87, if he thought his practice would also help him live longer - he replied, "Definitely, healthier and more productively, but it is honestly hard to say what will allow someone to live longer; and what is the point of living longer, if you are not healthy and enjoying what you are doing." Wan is always the first practitioner to sign up for Zhong Xin Dao/I Liq Chuan workshops, and keeps me and other Instructors who are assisting very busy answering his questions and giving him feedback.
One's present circumstances do not determine where you can go. It merely determines where you begin. If you are interested in training Internal Martial Arts, Nei Gung and Qi-gong to a high level of skill, in a community of like-minded people, In Motion Center in conjunction with TTOPA we will be bringing Hsin's Father, our teacher Grandmaster Sam Chin - a remarkable Martial Artist to the Bay Area December 11th - 15th, 2026 . Master Hsin will be back in the spring 2027 and we are looking to announce a seminar for Hsin's Sister, Master Yen Lee - who taught and shared her outstanding skill for at several seminars in Europe the past two years.

"I have had the good fortune to meet and train with Master Hsin Chin through several years of seminars. He has a sensitive touch. His feedback is detailed. He takes his time to see and feel what I’m doing, and then gives specific instructions for me to feel more directly, my structure, movement and especially my attention. Though he is at an incredibly higher level than me, he is able to relate to my level, and give me feedback that I can work with. Hsin pushes me to my limit, to expand understanding. Hsin has the feel of ZXD/ILC and is ever so generous in sharing it."
Wonderful Share - Wan ! - FYI the 'curious old guy on the block'; Dr. Wan Chan is truly an inspiration to everyone in Zhong Xin Dao/I Liq Chuan who has the opportunity to train with this fine gentleman. Born in Malaysia, he is a retired Obstetric Physician with a career spanning 50 years - delivering 10,000+ babies on 3 continents and in 4 countries; Wan speaks 4 languages. After the seminar this weekend, I asked Wan how he got started - he said 'Serendipity' - 'Good Luck in making Unexpected and Fortunate Discoveries.';
recounting that he was an avid traveler, golfer and fly fisherman; before a hand injury 10 years ago prompted him to begin training in the Internal Martial Arts.

Who is This Workshop For:
This seminar is an antidote to this problem
- Martial artists practitioners of Tai Chi, Hsing-I, Ba Gua, I Chuan, Aikido, Systema, Wing Chun, Jujitsu, Judo, Karate, Kung Fu, Wrestling, Boxing etc., who’ve tasted something deeper but can’t produce that quality consistently - If you’ve known something deeper was there but couldn’t quite access it…This is it.
- Body-workers, and Acupuncturists who understand the Nervous System and 3 Dimensional Spiral Nature of the Energy Channels, but want to feel kinetic intelligence in action.
- Educators who want to investigate an Embodied Learning Pedagogy with a proven track record for merging Eastern/Western philosophies and amazing, clear descriptions of Anatomical Function as they relate to Martial Arts and Mind-Body disciplines.
- Practitioners of Meditation, Yoga, Somatics Arts, and Therapies who want to increase their interoception and proprioceptive skills, through a dynamic practice of embodied cognition, directly experiencing the crucial role your body plays in shaping your thoughts and brain processes as well as the ways these are deeply intertwined with your somatic experiences and interactions with your environment.
- Dancers and Movement Teachers (Pilates, Gyrotonics, Feldenkrais, etc.) who crave structure-based flow that moves from the inside-out - not just shape and style.
- Anyone sincerely interested in Internal Cultivation who wants to train in a supportive non-competitive environment and connect with an authentic reliable source of quality information in an age of short attention spans and too much disinformation.
This seminar is an antidote to this problem
What will be genuinely different about how I move and train after this weekend?
- You will leave with a reliable internal reference point - something you can return to every single time you train, not just when a teacher is in the room correcting you.
- Your timing improves - not because you train timing directly but because when your structure is properly organized you stop wasting attention managing your own body and can give full attention to what your partner or opponent is doing.
- You stop telegraphing. When movement initiates from a properly organized center rather than from peripheral muscular effort, your intentions become harder to read. This is a real martial advantage that follows directly from the material being taught.
- You become harder to uproot or destabilize not through strength or resistance but through genuine structural integrity that you will directly experience.
- You won't spend the weekend watching someone demonstrate things you can't yet feel. You will be met at your actual level and moved forward from there. That's a specific and reassuring benefit for anyone who has attended seminars where they felt lost or left behind.
- This practice meets you where you are, works at any age and any level and keeps giving you something genuinely new.
- Attending this seminar connects you with a living lineage and a community of serious practitioners from across the US, Canada, Europe, Asia, and Australia. If you feel at all isolated in your practice and are seeking a source of precise and reliable instruction I Liq Chuan is a genuinely a 'Family' style inclusive and warmly welcoming to all who are sincerely interested.
Benefits for Bodyworkers and Acupuncturists...
You will gain a felt understanding of how the fascial and skeletal system actually transmits and distributes force through the body in three dimensions. This directly improves your ability to work with clients because you stop thinking in flat anatomical diagrams and start sensing the living spiral organization of the body.
Benefits for movement teachers - Pilates, Feldenkrais, Gyrotonics etc.
You spend your career cueing other people's bodies. You will gain new language - not verbal language but somatic language. When you have felt the correct organization in your own body, your hands develop a different quality of listening and your cues become more precise because they come from direct experience rather than conceptual knowledge.
Benefits for Meditators and Yoga Practitioners
The 13 Points give you a structured physical anchor for present-moment awareness that is dynamic rather than static. Most meditation-based body practices cultivate stillness as the vehicle for presence. This work cultivates presence through constant movement and adjustment - which is a completely different and complementary skill. For someone whose practice has plateaued in stillness, this is a genuine opening.
